We bought a tour that took us north through a couple of little villages to an elephant reserve and a cave where many, many Buddhas have been left over the years. The elephants are a problem as they are no longer used in the teak lumbering forests and people can't afford to keep them. We had an opportunity to go for an hour ride though the jungle and a dried up rice paddy. We had lunch at the reserve and then drove back toward town to go south to a series of waterfalls. You clearly take a leap of faith when you visit third world countries as there are no safety standards for drivers, bridges, food, etc etc
Men working with bamboo while children played around their work space... Nice family atmosphere.
Woman weaving scarves
Feeding the elephant bananas
View looking down on our elephant..... I was surprised by the lack of pigment in the ears.
Heather and dick's elephant wanted to eat everything along the way. Their guide had to finally slide down his trunk and lead him to keep him going.
Beautiful waterfalls with plenty of people swimming...if you wanted to pick your way over the rocks and slippery mud to get into the water.
